Ureda Naturals Elastin Peptide is made from bovine heart tube through enzymatic hydrolysis, decolorization, nanofiltration, concentration and spray drying. It is supplied in powder or granular form for food, dietary supplement and cosmetic formulation development.

Source and Grade Selection

Elastin peptide is available in bovine and marine-derived source grades. Source affects ingredient identity, customer acceptance and documentation requirements, so the grades should be evaluated separately. The specifications and COA results below apply to the bovine heart tube grade.

How to Read the Elastin Peptide Profile

Elastin is a cross-linked structural protein. Enzymatic hydrolysis breaks it into peptide material, while the degree of hydrolysis and subsequent separation influence the resulting peptide profile. A “low molecular weight” description alone is therefore not a complete specification.

  • Protein content and peptide content are separate reported measures. Peptide content should not be relabeled as elastin purity.
  • Average molecular weight is an average; it does not state the percentage of peptides below a particular cutoff or show the complete molecular-weight distribution.
  • Desmosines and isodesmosines are elastin-related crosslink markers. Their result adds a compositional measure alongside protein and peptide content, but is not by itself a measure of finished-product efficacy.

When comparing specifications, distinguish an average molecular weight from a maximum limit or a percentage of peptides below a stated molecular-weight cutoff. These are different measures and should not be compared as equivalent numbers.

Dry-Basis Results and Production Weighing

Protein and peptide content are reported on a dry basis, while production formulas are often weighed using the ingredient as received. For a preliminary mass-balance estimate, applying the COA’s 4.50% loss on drying to its 95.20% dry-basis peptide result gives approximately 90.9% on an as-received basis:

95.20% × (1 − 0.045) ≈ 90.9%

This conversion helps estimate peptide contribution per kilogram of received powder. Use the agreed COA calculation basis and applicable lot result for final production weighing.

Application and Process Qualification

Collagen-Peptide Blends

Total protein alone cannot show how much elastin-derived ingredient is present in a collagen-peptide blend. Set the target using the actual elastin peptide inclusion level, and use the peptide and desmosine/isodesmosine specifications as separate composition checks. Confirm blend uniformity after the customer’s mixing and filling steps.

Clear and Ready-to-Drink Beverages

Water solubility does not by itself establish clarity in a finished beverage. To locate the cause of haze or sediment, first test the ingredient in the planned water phase at the target use level. Then add acids, minerals, proteins or hydrocolloids one at a time. Finally, run the selected formula through the intended heat and holding steps.

If a change appears in the water phase, review reconstitution and mixing. If it appears only after a particular ingredient is added, investigate that matrix interaction. If it appears after heating or holding, review the process and storage conditions. Define acceptance criteria before the trial, such as appearance after processing, sediment or redispersibility, and peptide or marker recovery where required.

Powder Blends, Capsules and Tablets

Molecular weight does not predict hopper flow or blend uniformity. Powder and granular forms can behave differently during feeding and filling. Select the form against the customer’s equipment and blend, then check flow, segregation and finished-dose uniformity at the intended production step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does an average molecular weight of ≤1,000 Da mean every peptide is below 1,000 Da?

No. It is an average specification; it does not state the percentage below 1,000 Da or show the full distribution. If a formulation depends on a defined peptide-size fraction, specify that fraction and its test basis.

Does 95.20% peptide content mean 95.20% elastin purity?

No. The COA reports peptide content as its own test item. It should not be renamed elastin purity. Protein content, peptide content and desmosines/isodesmosines are separate composition measures.

Can the bovine heart tube COA qualify a marine-derived grade?

No. Source identity and quality profile must be qualified by grade. A bovine result does not establish the composition or quality of a marine-derived product.

How should dry-basis peptide content be used in a production formula?

Convert it to the basis used for weighing. When the formula is charged by as-received powder mass, account for the lot’s loss on drying rather than treating the dry-basis percentage as the as-received percentage.
